AN EARLY HISPANO-MORESQUE COPPER LUSTRE-PAINTED POTTERY BOWL WITH BIRD MOTIF
Manises, Nasrid Spain, 15th century
Of typical hemispherical shape, resting on a short gently flared foot, the centre copper lustre-painted with the design of an eagle surrounded by vegetal flourishes and spiraling lines, the outside with two rules, all on cream ground, 13.2cm diam.
An almost identical example in terms of shape and decorative motifs (excluding the bird) can be found in the National Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts "González Martí" in Valencia, Spain, attributed to 15th-century Manises manufacture (inv. no. 1/8967).
