AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY GERMAN CAST SILVER MODEL OF A SEABIRD, PROBABLY HANAU CIRCA 1910
Possibly a Tern, realistically modelled with cast feathers and webbed feet, hinged opposable wings. Marked to each wing tip with French standard mark for second standard (800) and for retailer EE with a device of a torchere (untraced).
Height – 10 cm / 4 inches
Weight – 280 grams / 9 ozt
Germany was not one of the contracting countries for France and thus the standard mark would be used rather than the insect, this second standard mark would have been used on all wares between 800 and 950 and does not indicate that the silver standard is fixed at 800.
