A BLUE AND WHITE IZNIK-REVIVAL POTTERY VASE
Ottoman Turkey, mid to late 19th century
Designed in the typical shape of a mosque lamp, with a globular body resting on a short splayed foot, rising to a flared trumpet-like neck, on the narrow shoulders three applied loop handles, underglaze painted in tones of cobalt blue on white, the body decorated with cusped naskh calligraphic cartouches reading the name of God, Mohammad and Ali, set amongst stylised split palmettes and rosette sprays, chevron bands to the handles, further calligraphic scalloped cartouches on the neck surrounded by rosettes, Chinese-inspired lotuses and stylised scrolling meanders, 21.6cm diam. and 30cm high.
