An Elizabeth II modernist sterling silver sauceboat on stand, London 1970 by Christopher Nigel Lawrence

Of broadly oval form with a shaped spout opposite a chamfered square section handle with textured decoration, all upon a textured collet foot. The oval form stand with a chamfered edge with textured decoration, with a central collet to hold sauceboat in place. Fully marked to side and underneath stand. (2)

Christopher Nigel Lawrence was born in 1936. Studied at the Central School of Arts & Crafts. Christopher established a small workshop in the garden of his home in 1968, but four months later opened a design studio and workshop at nearby Leigh-on-Sea. Galerie Jean Renet, a new gallery in Old Bond Street devoted to contemporary silver and jewellery held a large exhibition of his work in 1970. In 1973 The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths staged a one-man show to commemorate ‘five years of meteoric artistic and commercial development’.
