A pair of George II sterling silver table forks, London 1734 by Paul Hanet (reg. 24th June 1731)
Hanoverian pattern, three pronged. Each engraved to the reverse with traces of a contemporaneous crest below a coronet, probably a saracen's head and neck couped at the shoulders, with a long cap, below an Earl’s coronet. Together with another table fork, same pattern, virginal erased, with traces of contemporaneous initials C*H, London probably 1738 by Paul Hanat. (3)

The crest, if correct, allowing for some differences of blazoning and not used by any other peer, is for Walpole
For Sir Robert Walpole (1676-1745), 1st Earl of Orford of Houghton Hall, Norfolk. Great Britain’s first and longest serving Prime Minister, Walpole lived in 10 Downing Street from 1735 having insisted that it become the residence of the First Lord of the Treasury, rather than being given to him personally.
