A SEATED PORTRAIT OF PRINCE SITAL SEN OF NAGAUR
Possibly Nagaur District or Jaipur, Rajasthan, North-Western India, first half 19th century

Opaque pigments heightened with gold on wove paper, the vertical composition depicting a seated Indian prince, possibly Sital Sen of Nagaur, drinking from a small wine cup and holding the tube connected to a golden huqqa pipe next to him, a female attendant standing behind him to cater his needs, golden trays filled with fruits located in front of the prince, an inscription in black ink Devanagari script reading Sen Sital at the bottom, set within black and white rules, and red borders, mounted on a later cardboard frame, 33.5cm x 25.5cm.
