Possibly Turkey or Syria, Ottoman Provinces, late 19th century - early 20th century

Of rectangular shape, surmounted by cusped panels and a detachable medallion with the typical Ottoman symbol of the star and crescent moon, both outlined in mother-of-pearl tesserae, the frame clad in delicate marquetry work with mother-of-pearl, ebony, and coloured wood tesserae repeating the traditional six-pointed star motif on a dark ground, the sides featuring volute-like flanges filled with vegetal sprays, the squinches inlaid with ebony vegetal sprays against a mother-of-pearl background creating a charming two-tone effect, 107cm x 67cm.
