FIVE DAMASCUS POTTERY BORDER TILES
PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE LONDON COLLECTION
Damascus, Ottoman Syria, 17th century
Comprising five rectangular tiles, two in a fragmentary state, all underglaze painted in cobalt blue, turquoise, manganese purple, outlined in black and all on white ground, decorated with arabesque-filled cusped palmettes, on two tiles the negative spaces of the arabesque painted in manganese purple and on all hightened with splashes of cobalt blue, the smallest 13cm x 21.5cm, the largest 13.2cm x 26.5cm.
Provenance: Previously part of a Private Collection based in London and formed between the 1970s and 1980s.
