Opaque pigments, ink, pencil and gold on paper, the loose folio possibly once part of a now dispersed Book of Histories of Sultan Mahmoud, the verso with a scene of sama’, Sufis joyously dancing, clapping their hands and shaking loose sleeves and handkerchiefs to keep the tempo of the music, one dancer with upturned hems, the rapture observed by Christian believers, being so moved by the experience 72 of them decided to convert to Islam as described in the Persian text written in black ink nasta’liq script in the two text cartouches; and the recto with a total of 14ll. of nasta'liq script with the Rubai’ 692 of Abu Said Abdul Khair, with washed red margin to the left, on a modern white cardboard mount, the folio 18.5cm x 13cm, 40.5cm x 35.5cm including the outer mount.
