TWO DAMASCUS POTTERY TILES WITH A VASE OF CARNATIONS AND CYPRESS TREES
Damascus, Ottoman Syria, 17th century

Comprising two square tiles, underglaze painted in cobalt blue and turquoise, with outlines in black, all on white ground, both tiles with a bouquet of carnations and tulips emanating from a central two-tiered vase with split-palmette designs, flanked by tall and thin cypress trees and wild hyacinth stems, the tiles fixed together and framed, 56.7cm x 31.1cm including the frame.
