Engraving depicting the defence of Rorke's Drift, taken from an Issue of the Graphic dated March 15th, 1879, clearly signed to the right margin 'Gonville Bromhead, 24 Reg (for the 24th Regiment on Foot)', mounted, framed and glazed, 615 x 480mm.

***Major Gonville Bromhead was a British Army officer and recipient of the Victoria Cross. He received the medal for his part in the defence of Rorke's Drift in January 1879, in which a small British garrison of 139 soldiers successfully repulsed an assault by some 4,000 Zulu warriors. Shortly after the battle, having been promoted to Major, Bromhead went on to serve in Burma during the 1880s before dying of typhoid fever at Camp Dabhaura, Allahanad, India on February 9th, 1892.

Bromhead signature is exceptionally scarce.
