A ROMANO-BRITISH JET BEAD BRACELET Circa 3rd Century A.D. Restrung, composed of long flat beads of semi-circular cross-section, with a zig-zag pattern, and two larger square beads with parallel ribs, approx. 6cm internal diam. Provenance: UK private collection, acquired in England in the early 1980s. Literature: Even in the Roman period most of the jet was sourced in the area around Whitby and then worked in the city of Eboracum, modern-day York. The other major centre for the production of jet jewellery was in the North Rhine Valley around the city of Cologne.
