PROPERTY FROM THE STEWART COLLECTION
India, early 20th century

Comprising five garlands made of yellow and orange cotton thread spun with yellow metal thread, embellished with spangles, coloured beads, green, blue, and hot pink tassels, and embroidered pendants in the shape of six-pointed stars, roundels, and small parasols (chhattri), usually worn during Indian festivals, official ceremonies and celebrations including groom's processions and marriages, the longest 68cm.

Provenance: acquired by the vendor's grandmother, who lived in India and Colombo, Sri Lanka, until 1919.
