A SMALL IZNIK POTTERY JUG WITH FLORAL MOTIF
Iznik, Ottoman Turkey, late 16th - 17th century
Of typical bulbous shape, resting on a short circular foot, with narrow shoulders rising to a conical neck with a wide circular rim, with a curved handle on one side, painted in cobalt blue, copper green, bole red and outlined in black, all on a milky-white ground, the exterior decorated with two overlapping horizontal bands of rosette, tulip and wild hyacinths stems, the handle marked with horizontal brush strokes, 21.3cm high.
