The Bigger Picture: Fine Photographica & Panoramas

Lot 316

Michael Westmoreland (XX)

Michael Westmoreland (XX)

A group of ten panoramas by the British photographer Michael Westmoreland, primarily dating to the 1980s, eight depicting London landmarks, one depicting Hong Kong, and one composite image. Comprising:

PANORAMA OF PICCADILLY CIRCUS, LONDON, 1977; PANORAMA VIEWS OF LONDON THAMES; PANORAMA OF HAY 5, LONDON; PANORAMA OF SHELL PEARL, LONDON, 1987, 4th June 87; PANORAMA OF HONG KONG; PANORAMA OF LONDON, 1987; PANORAMA OF BANK, LONDON, 1987; PANORAMA OF STRAND ON GREEN, LONDON.

Note: It is thought Michael was the only photographer in the word ever to shoot colour transparencies with Cirkut panoramic cameras. Already a well established panoramic photographer, a chance comment from a colleague led him to a supply of Agfachrome aerial transparency roll film which was about to be discarded. Shooting panoramas up to 360 degrees in full colour gave results in amazing detail and Cibachrome copies were produced with his home-made contact printing system, and with no loss of quality.

A detailed video of the production method can bee see on the YouTube channel of the PCCGB
