AN IZNIK POTTERY DISH WITH TULIPS AND CARNATIONS
Iznik, Ottoman Turkey, late 16th - 17th century
Of shallow rounded shape, resting on a short circular foot, rising to a gently everted flattened rim, underglaze painted in cobalt blue, bole red, copper green and black on white ground, featuring a large central tulip stem accompanied by carnation stems in the centre, surrounded by scrolling budding rosette stems and blossoms, the rim painted in black with the typical 'rock and wave' motif, the exterior with a band of green roundles, 30cm diam.
