AN IZNIK-STYLE CANTAGALLI POTTERY JUG

Of elegant bulbous shape, resting on a short circular foot, rising to a gently flared neck and circular rim, with a curved handle on one side, painted in cobalt blue, light green, and bold red, outlined in black and on white ground, imitating the same palette and decoration of Ottoman Iznik creations, with two overlapping horizontal bands of tulip and carnation stems on the body and neck divided by a geometric fretwork band on the shoulders, a band of half rosette flowers to the foot, and horizontal brush strokes in blue and black against green to the handle, the base marked with the number '5' and Cantagalli's rooster in black, 24.5cm high.
