AN OTTOMAN SILK VELVET CUSHION COVER (YASTIK)
Bursa, Ottoman Turkey, mid to late 19th century

Of rectangular shape, the pale-yellow silk ground voided to reveal a predominantly green and red floral arrangement radiating out of a central stylised flower, culminating in leaf-shaped tendrils bearing red berries, the corners and sinuous border similar, the field with repeating star-shaped stellar motifs, mounted, 125cm x 61cm.

This chatma panel, most probably used as a bolster cover (yastik yuzu), would have decorated a lavish Ottoman salon with low platforms.
