An engraved Mamluk-revival brass vase and kashkul (begging bowl), possibly Egypt or Syria, late 19th -20th century, comprising a brass vase of typical shape with a flat base rising to rounded shoulders, with a straight neck and reinforced rim, the engraved decoration consisting of knotwork bands, cusped cartouches, central lobed medallions filled with geometric patterns and floriated and knotted Kufic calligraphic inscriptions, two further knotwork bands to the neck either side of a band of thuluth inscriptions, 16.5cm diam. and 22.5cm high; and a kashkul (begging bowl), of slender crescent shape, the body decorated with knotwork and a central floral design the base with a pseudo-calligraphic inscription, the chains now missing, 33.7cm at widest point.
