TWO SETS OF CHINESE FUJIANESE LACQUER NESTING BOXES.

Repubilc period.

Each comprising of five boxes of gradual size and of rectangular-section, decorated with polychrome lacquer, one set painted to the cover with gilt dragons, the second with figures in mountainous landscapes, the smaller set with Ling Dai Mi ware marks,14cm long. (20)

Provenance: from an English private collection.

A number of Fujianese lacquer boxes were collected by Queen Mary and displayed at Frogmore House. For an example retained in the royal collection see C&J : Ayers, J., Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty The Queen, vol 3, 2016, London, cat no 2057.
