Jerusalem, Holy Land, late 18th - early 19th century

Of rectangular shape, made of several small mother-of-pearl mosaic tesserae, each one engraved and filled in black pigment, depicting the Virgin Mary stepping onto a snake, flanked on each side by St. Francis with the crucifix and St. Benedict with the crosier and book, and groups of winged angels at the top, the scene set within a cusped frame with stylised foliage and a winged cherub at the top, 18cm x 18.3cm.
