A SMALL LATE 17TH CENTURY ITALIAN BRONZE STATUETTE OF BACCHUS the bearded figure standing on his left leg, a cup in his left hand and a twin handled urn in his right, raised on a later Verdi Antico marble plinth, the bronze 9.5cm high, 14cm high  This delightful and amusing statuette depicting Bacchus dancing, nude and holding aloft his cup of wine is a theme explored throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, for example Giambologna's humorous figure of the Medici dwarf Morgante depicts the dwarf nude and raising his cup in a toast.  Related Literature: Giambologna, C.
