A near pair of engraved miniature brass ewers (aftabeh), India, 19th century, comprising two typical pyriform footed ewers, each rising to a tapering neck surmounted by a domed lid, with a sinuous handle reminiscent of Islamic dragon handles on one side, and on the latter a faceted straight spout, the exterior engraved with stylised vegetal and leafy motifs on gently ring-punched ground, bands of vegetal scrolls and palmette leaves to the base and neck, and two drop-shaped cartouches filled with floral bouquets in the centre of the body, the tallest 27.5cm high.
