AN INCOMPLETE ILLUSTRATED KASHMIRI MANUSCRIPT ON HINDU DEITIES

Hindu manuscript on lined paper, 293ff., with 6ll. of black, gold and red ink Devanagari script to the page, the text accompanied by eight polychrome-painted and gilt illustrations featuring Hindu deities and scenes from Hindu epics like the Ramayana, encased within typical Kashmiri decorative borders with cusped cartouches and arches filled with rosettes on a gold ground set against golden vegetal meanders on blue ground, a similar decorative treatment presented on title and opening chapters pages, the text and illustration panels set within polychrome rules, the binding now missing, the text panel 7cm x 13.5cm, the page 11cm x 19cm.
