A SILVER-INLAID AND ENGRAVED ZAND BRASS EWER
Iran, 18th - 19th century

Of compressed pyriform shape, resting on four faceted short feet, rising to a tapering neck surmounted by a dome-shaped hinged lid, with a curved handle on one side and a faceted straight spout on the latter, the whole body engraved with knotwork bands, vegetal sprays, and cusped and drop-shaped cartouches filled with figural decoration in Achaemenid-revival style with the kings and heroes of the Persian past, the background space between the cartouches decorated with silver-inlaid Y-shaped designs reminiscent of 15th-century Mamluk and Timurid metalwork creations, 26.5cm high.
