A PAIR OF POLYCHROME-ENAMELLED COPPER ALLOY WALL TURBAN STANDS
Ottoman Syria and Provinces, late 19th century

The wooden wallboards designed in the shape of cusped panels, each featuring a rounded scalloped stand supported by a gilt sinuous vegetal volute in European style, the wallboards clad in engraved and repoussé copper sheets enamelled in light blue, bright yellow, pink and white and decorated with two large solar medallions with the typical Persian emblem of the Qajar dynasty, the Lion and Sun (Shir o Khorshid), and further roundels with typical Ottoman architectures with crescent finials and city skylines, in the centre of each stand a circular medallion with a six-pointed star filled with rosettes, floral bouquets, calligraphy and braided contours, each approx. 78.5cm high.
