A CHINESE CHESTNUT-GROUND EMBROIDERED 'DRAGON' ROBE.

Late Qing Dynasty.

Embroidered in gold threads with eight four-clawed dragons on the front and back panels, chasing flaming pearls amidst a ground of multi-coloured clouds interspersed with bats and peonies, above a hem of cresting waves tossed with peony heads, and the lishui stripe, with matching dark brown borders at the collar and cuffs further embellished with striding five-clawed dragons and related motifs, 99cm x 151cm.

Provenance: from the collection of a lady of title.
