Each dish painted to the centre with a fortune teller stood to the right with a baby slung on her back, before her lies a gentleman, two boys and two hounds as their horse stands to attention behind, the cavetto with elaborate foliate decorations and details picked out in gilt

See a comparable dish sold at Christie's New York, 23 Jan 2019, lot 658 (price realised USD $1,250). Another dish with an identical scene but with gilt-painted spear borders was sold at Christie's New York, 18 Jan 2018, lot 96 (price realised USD $5,000).

Pieces with this decoration are in the British Museum, published by Regina Krahl and Jessica Harrison-Hall in 'Ancient Chinese Trade Ceramics in the British Museum', London, 1994, p. 166, no. 71. There are also pieces in the Musée de la Compagnie des Indes (France, Lorient) from the Hervouët Collection, and also in the Victoria & Albert Museum, published in Rose Kerr, Luisa E. Mengoni, 'Chinese Export Ceramics', London, V&A Publishing, 2011, p.54, pl.67.

A related lot from the Motahedded Collection was sold at Sotheby’s New York, 30 January 1985, lot 230.

A plate from Cohen & Cohen was in the Alves Collection and published by Paulo & Filomena Cunha Alves in 'From East To West The Quest For Chinese Export Porcelain With Western Themes (1695-1815)', p. 230, no. 142.
