With rounded ends and sliding tray, the horizontally-arranged curved top and sides painted with groups seated in landscapes in a variety of Western-inspired costumes against gold-sprinkled ground, four idealised heads in roundels on the sides, Mother and Child theme, the rounded ends with landscapes, the decoration an ode to Western motifs and influences in Qajar Iran, the inner sides and base in red, painted with scrolling lotuses in gold, the inside in black, with lidded steel dawat (inkwell), containing a portion of an old auction catalogue entry, pertaining to lot 254, Sotheby's April 19… (?), initialled GPB, 23.5cm x 3.8cm x 3.6cm.
