AN INDIAN BRASS LION-SHAPED FIGURINE
Possibly Deccan or Mysore, Karnataka, Southern India, 18th century
In the shape of a pouncing lion with its tongue sticking out, the head engraved with a thick mane, flat nose, long whiskers, and the forehead with rosettes, the chest pierced and used as a container for powder or ointments, more rosettes engraved on the rear legs, 10.5cm x 11cm.
Provenance: purchased in a small antique shop in Cambridge approximately 20 years ago.
