Possibly Bundi or Jaipur, Rajasthan, North-Western India, mid to late 19th century

Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, the large vertical composition depicting a typical tantric yantra (diagram) associated with the Hindu goddess Durga, the warrior aspect of the Devi slaying demons more powerful than male Hindu deities, the gold-painted multi-armed goddess presented seated in a lotus position in the middle of the lotus-shaped yantra with a six-pointed star, a demon lying unconscious in the foreground, set within black and white rules, and bright red borders, mounted, glazed and framed, 47cm x 40cm including the frame.
