A mid-20th century Danish sterling silver modernist "Bolgeslag" The Waves candelabra, Copenhagen 1959 designed by Ibi Trier Mørch (1910-80) for Anton Michelsen

Comprised of six candle sockets of graduated height upon conjoined stems. Marked underneath, ‘Sterling Denmark’, A. Michelsen, and date code C9, designers initials.

Length – 25 cm / 9.8 inches

Height – 16.5 cm / 6.5 inches Weight – 933 grams / 30 ozt

This candelabra was first designed in 1950, while Mørch was producing designs for A. Michelsen between 1949 – 52. In 1960 she won the gold medal at the Triennale in Milan for her silverware with ivory handles (1951) for which the Museum of Modern Art in New York bought the series for the museum's collection. She also produced teapots with chiselled surfaces.

A 1951 example of this design was sold Christie’s Amsterdam, 9 Nov 2005, Lot 319 (€1,440 incl. premium)
