AN IZNIK BLUE AND TURQUOISE POTTERY TILE FRAGMENT
Ottoman Turkey, 16th century

Of rectangular shape, painted in cobalt blue and turquoise on a white ground, the decoration consisting of two bands, the lower with spiraling stems of stylised lotus flowers, carnations, rosettes and saz leaves stemming from a cusped arabesque medallion, at the top a band of intertwining rosettes and saz leaves against a blue ground, the back plain, mounted on a black metal stand, 19.3cm x 14.4cm excluding the stand.

Provenance: Previously purchased in 1967 by a Scandinavian collector, currently part of a private UK collection.
