AN ILLUSTRATION OF A RAM DARBAR: RAMA AND SITA ENTHRONED
Kangra, Pahari Hills, Northern India, post-1850

Opaque pigments heightened with gold on wove paper, presenting a traditional composition of the Ram Darbar with Rama and Sita seated under a gold-embroidered velvet canopy, accompanied by the loyal Monkey-God Hanuman; Rama's brother, Lakshmana, weaving a fly-whisk; and Bharata and Shatrughna, two further characters from Valmiki's Ramayana and Rama devotees, standing as attendants behind the blessed couple, painted within an oval medallion framed by a gold and white floral decorative band and light pink borders with red wavy lines typical of Kangra school productions, mounted on a later white cardboard frame, 32.5cm x 29.5cm.
