Qing Dynasty, 18th Century.
Painted on one side with a series of gilt-bordered overlapping panels variously depicting a pair of rabbits, birds on a flowering branch, a watery landscape scene, a garden scene of a goat herdess beside a body, a young couple embracing, a pair of deer, a garden veranda overlooking a lake and a pair of butterflies, all against a varied gilt and floral decorated ground, the reverse painted with a single scene of flowers, mounted onto European carved ivory guards and sticks ornately carved and inset with mother-of-pearl carving and coloured with pigment, 51.5cm across.
