A mid-20^th century Iraqi silver, filigree and niello compact, Basra circa 1940

Of circular form with a filigree lid centred with a niello scene of the Abu Hanifa al in Nu'man, Baghdad. The interior with a niello and engraved scene of the previous, the obverse with a niello scene of a dhow sailing boat, signed Swadi. Together with another Iraqi filigree compact, the front with a lozenge cartouche engraved with initials EWD. (2)
