A late 19th century Chinese export silver milk or cream jug, Canton dated 1897, marked Qiao Yuan Sheng, retailed by Wo Shing of Shanghai

Qing dynasty. Of lobed rounded form with a short spout opposite a handle modelled as bamboo. The body with chased panels of alternating bamboo, peonies, and figural scenes with buildings, the side with a cartouche engraved with initials MJA in gothic script cypher, above the date 1897. Marked underneath with artisan mark 盛原巧 (QIAO YUAN SHENG), and retailer’s mark WS.

Length – 11 cm / 4.3 inches

Weight – 158 grams / 5.08 ozt
