A large late 18th century Portuguese silver coffee pot, Porto circa 1780 by Antonio José Soares da Silva

D.Maria period. Of baluster form upon a stepped pedestal foot with beaded edge and cavetto base. The body with half fluted decoration repeated on the base and the hinged high domed lid surmounted by an urn finial. The curved spout with beaded edging and fluted section, acanthus capped, opposite an ebonised fruitwood handle pinned to scroll sockets. The body with engraved decoration of shield shaped cartouches below a floral spray, adjoined by ribbon tied floral swags, one side engraved with contemporaneous initials ACBT in cursive script. Marked to the foot with town mark, assay scrape and makers mark AS (V.718), the foot and lid with later French control mark.
