A PAIR OF ENGRAVED AND GOLD-DAMASCENED STEEL KNEE COVERS
Qajar Iran, late 19th century

Each of hemispherical shape, surmounted by a spire finial, the exterior divided in six segments of decoration, each segment featuring a calligraphic roundel in the centre surrounded by full floral bloom and lush vegetal trellis, a poetry calligraphic band with roundels and oval cartouches with nasta'liq inscriptions engraved around the edge, each segment highlighted by a gold line, each knee cover with leather straps and four steel fastenings pinned to the edge, mounted on two later stands, each 14.5cm diam. and 16cm high.
