A LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ WOODEN SIDE TABLE
Kashmir, Northern India, late 19th - 20th century
The circular table top resting on three thin tubular legs, in the middle of the legs a smaller circular tray replicating the top, the trays and legs polychrome-painted, gilt, and lacquered with raised papier-mâché decorations consisting of a triumph of vegetal and floral motifs including rosettes, lilacs, narcissi, carnations and prunus blossoms, all against a dark ground heightened with golden scrolls and filler lines in the negative spaces, 38.5cm diam. and 46.5cm high.
