A FINE LATE 19TH CENTURY MEIJI PERIOD JAPANESE EXPORT CARVED HARDWOOD DESK AND CHAIR EXHIBITED AT THE CALIFORNIA INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION 1917 profusely carved throughout, the superstructure surmounted by a pair of dragons and with a balustrade arcade above a drawer and flanked by a pair of cupboards with relief carving of dragons, the writing surface with Greek key border, over one long and two short frieze drawers, raised on cabriole legs also carved with dragons, together with a matching swivel chair raised on three legs also carved with dragons and with Greek Key border to the seat, 127cm wide x 153cm high x 80cm deep (2) Sold with a letter confirming the sale from the Japan Exhibit Association (under the supervision of Kyosan Kai Inc) Foreign Art Building, Panama, California International Exposition, dated January 20th 1917.
