A POLYCHROME-PAINTED ENAMELLED GOLD PENDANT WITH A WESTERN BEAUTY
Qajar Iran, 19th century
The gold pendant in the shape of a cusped palmette or escutcheon, caparisoned on the lower border with small pearls and with a small hoop at the top, the front decorated with a portrait of a European beauty in polychromes, showing off her cleavage and bosoms, flanked by two nightingales at the top, the back with a rose stem with foliage, and a pair of similar birds at the top, the pendant 4.5cm long, 17gr.
Two almost identical Qajar polychrome-painted enamel pendants with portraits of a pining lady and Mother and Child were once part of the same collection and successfully sold in these Rooms, 22 July 2020, lot 88, and 29 April 2022, lot 43.
