A CHINESE POWDER-BLUE GILT-DECORATED 'DRAGON' BOTTLE VASE.
Qing Dynasty, Guangxu mark and of the period.
With an ovoid body supported on a straight foot painted in gilt with two five-clawed dragons pursuing a sacred pearl of wisdom amongst smoke and fire, with rolling sea waves beneath, the shoulder surrounded with a thick border of lotus blossoms and shou characters, the trumpet neck with further blossoms and a ruyi band to the flared rim, a six character mark to the base, 39cm H.
Provenance: an English private collection, purchased in Hong Kong circa 1918 by a British Royal Navy officer, presented to his sister and thence by descent to the present owner.
