Possibly Odisha (Orissa), Eastern India, late 19th - early 20th century

Opaque pigments and ink on wove paper, arranged in horizontal narrative format, depicting two scenes from a provincial Bhagavata Purana series showing Krishna and his brother Balrama at a yajna or puja seated in front of a Brahmin priest, behind them Vasudeva and Devaki; and the latter with Krishna and the gopis in the wilderness, each folio with 4ll. of black and red ink Devanagari script to the page on the front and one page with 5ll. on the reverse, each ca. 24.5cm x 37.3cm.
