A Louis XV mid-18th century French silver and mother of pearl snuff box, Paris 1745 by JBC

Of rectangular form with a hinged lid, the mounts with wavy decoration. The exterior with panels of mother of pearl, the lid with a lattice of panels overlaid with an oval plague carved with a pair of fruit pickers with baskets, one upon a ladder descending from a tree. The sides and base with carved overlaid over of pearl panels of couples, children or family groupings all reserved with C scrolls, rocaille work with flowers (losses). The silver interior with traces of gilding. Marked with the charge and discharge mark of Antoine Leschaudel (active 1st Oct 1744 – 1st Oct 1750), date letter E (27 Nov 1745 – 27 Nov 1746). 959 standard.
