***Churchill had begun smoking cigars during a trip to Cuba in 1895. It soon became part of his image as a statesman, and it is reported he smoked 10 of them a day. Don Joaquin cigars were Churchill’s favourite and were provided by Antonio Giraudier, a Cuban beer baron who had met Churchill in 1946. Giraudier shipped the cigars to Churchill three times a year at no cost to the British leader.
