A TINNED COPPER BOWL
Late Safavid Iran, 18th century

Of compressed globular shape, resting on a plain base, rising to an everted rim, the exterior engraved with a wide epigraphic band on hatched ground just below the rim with the names of the Prophet and the Twelve Shi'a Imams, and cusped cartouches with split palmettes and stylised rosettes interspersed with lobed medallions filled with stylised lotus flowers around the body, one of the cusped cartouches inscribed with another epigraphic inscription Saheb-e Fakhr al-Din Ibn Dervish-e 'Ali Sana'i , towards the base later-added cartouches with ownership titles, 13cm high and 25cm diam.
