A late 19th / early 20th century Burmese unmarked silver teapot, Rangoon circa 1900
Of globular form with a cast and chased spout formed as a hintha bird, opposite a cast handle formed as a bilu or ogre, fitted with ivory insulators. The hinged domed lid surmounted by a detachable finial formed as a kneeling bilu. All raised upon three claw feet with a scalloped apron. The body with chased and embossed decoration in vignettes of shaped arches of figures such as Hanuman and Suvannamaccha, and other figures from the Ramayana, reserved with flat chased scroll work. Chased decorative bands of foliate scrolls and rosettes. The junction of the spout with a chased pair of nats winged deities.
