***Since first appearing in ‘The Marvel’ in 1893, the Sexton Blake saga became a publishing phenomenon, appearing in English, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Dutch, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, French, Arabic, Hindi and Afrikaans.
Blake initially sprang from the mind of a writer called Hal Meredith, but continued to be reimagined by over 200 different authors, including: G. H. Teed, Gwyn Evans, Anthony Skene and Robert Murray.
In April 1894, the stories began appearing in the Union Jack, and it was this pink-jacketed magazine which was to make Sexton Blake famous. They were also published in Detective Weekly and the monthly magazine the Sexton Blake Library.
