Artist Description:
Ling produces highly realistic, rich, tonal oil paintings on large-scale canvas. His practice focuses on the details of both urban and natural landscapes whilst often capturing the detritus of everyday human lives. His work reflects and exploits a tension between the represented image and its material construction through paint. Ling paints both in the open air and in the studio from constructed tableaux of everyday objects such as fruit, food, carrier bags and plastic boxes. His tightly cropped, warping scenes require an active engagement from the viewer, as they try to orientate and piece together a narrative within the mounds of junk food, scattered papers and sprawling clothes.
